Boys vs Girls

Today JT and I went to his friend L's house. They both go to the same daycare and are the best of buds. It went well given the fact they are young. But wow, the differences stood out.

I love visiting with my friend's especially those who have girls. Of course our house is littered with cars, trucks, trains, and lots of activity. L's room was full of pink, tinker bell, and lots of frilly stuff. JT someone managed to find the only 'boy' toys she had. Which of course were Barbie cars, motorcycles, and a couple baby toys he use to have too. He did find a couple trains and a car to play with and pretty much had those glued to his hand most of the afternoon.

L wanted to put stickers on this jewelry box she got as a birthday gift. JT did not. L wanted to color. JT did not. L wanted JT to play a game with her. That lasted for 30 seconds. L wanted to play in her tinkerbell tent. JT did...he was inside pushing the walls down so it would fall over. L was NOT happy. Of course they fought a few times. That's to be expected for a 4 year old and an almost 4 year old.

I'm all for JT having friends who are girls. But after watching the different personalities I'm wondering if maybe we should wait before having another get together (with a girl). We couldn't leave those two alone to play as JT won't sit down and play (And L was getting pretty frustrated). When JT is around other boys I can let him play and he'll be fine. He is active like other boys and they usually are banging cars and trucks around. He isn't interested in sitting still for a game, or coloring for a long period of time. I don't want him to feel like I'm forcing him to play with someone, even if it is a friend, when his personality isn't wired to sit still and play quietly.

I'm at a loss on what to do.
